Welcome from the Chair!
Dear Parents and Carers,
I am delighted to be able to write to you as the new Chair of Governors for Warfield School. I was elected as the new Chair at the Board of Governors meeting just before the half-term holiday, and am honoured to take on this important role within the School. For those of you who do not know me, I thought I should give you a brief profile of who I am!
I am 45 and have worked in a variety of roles in education for over 20 years. I have a 12-year old daughter, a 10-year-old step-daughter and there appears to be a cat belonging to my new wife who follows me round the house as well. I am pretty hard to miss at 6’5 tall and I do have muscle spasms caused by non-verbal Tourettes’ which I am not embarrassed about and which I am determined to not stop me from doing things. I am a weekly worshipper at Warfield Church and my Christian faith is important to me. I became a Governor here in April 2015 and have been working across a range of activities with particular focus on the Maths curriculum, Pupil Premium, budget setting and the particular decisions which have been needed in relation to the building of the new site at Woodhurst Park.
Although I do not have a child at Warfield School, I am absolutely committed to the school and to ensuring the very best for every child at the school. I believe that it is such an exciting time for the school at present with the expansion at Woodhurst and the opportunities that this provides for enhancing the education offered to more local children. There are obviously challenges and pressures that come with this, but as Governors we are committed to working hard and supporting the school staff and leadership team in delivering the very best teaching and experience for every child within the school.
I am sure that we are united as Governors, staff, parents and children in wanting Warfield School to be the very best it can be. We all have a part to play in that and we all need to share our successes and work together when facing challenges. I hope that you will feel able to share the highs and lows with me and you are welcome to email me – email@example.com
Finally, I want to end by expressing my huge gratitude to my predecessor, Emma Barnard. She has done a fantastic job as Chair for the last few years and I am sure you will join me in thanking her for her hard work and dedication to the school. She will be remaining as a Governor and her expertise will be invaluable to me as I settle into my new role.
I look forward to meeting many of you in the coming months.
Paul Stowe, Chair of Governors
Warfield C of E School has a constitution of 16 governors, a third of which must be represented by the Parent body and each term of office for each governor is usually held for 4 years.
Staff Governors and Parent Governors are elected by a ballot of the communities they represent; Foundation Governors are appointed by the Oxford Diocesan Board of Education in association with Warfield Parochial Church Council; LEA (Local Education Authority) and Community Governors are co-opted by the Governing Body.
