Welcome to Warfield Gardening Club,
We have just completed two taster sessions for the children which have been very successful and well attended.
After Easter the children who have a place in the gardening club have been divided into two groups and will be attending the club on alternate weeks. This will give the seeds and plants a chance to grow and the children will begin to understand time and growth.
During the taster sessions the children helped to plant a bed of wildflowers, another bed of bulbs, a small section of our vegetable beds with radishes and some small pots full of sweet pea seeds.
All the children also planted some sunflower seeds in a pot and have been asked to nurture and care for them during the Easter holidays, ensuring they have sunlight and water. They have also been given a measuring chart to complete as their sunflower grows. The children will bring their pots back to the gardening club after Easter and watch them grow in our school garden during the summer term. We will enter the Bracknell Forest Homes 'tallest sunflower' competition and also the young gardeners competition.
Our gardening club would not be possible without the generous donations of compost by Shorts, woodchip to cover the ground donated by Woodchips Ltd, a big box of assorted plants, pots, bulbs and seeds from Moss End garden centre and a huge donation of plants by Oaktree garden centre. A big thank you to all of you for giving us a good start to our gardening club.
If you would like to donate to our beautiful new gardening area, we do need some herbs for our herb bed. Any gardening donations can be brought into school and delivered to Mrs Burgisser in the school nursery.
Our after school club is run on a Tuesday after school with the help of three parent volunteers, two reception parents and one nursery parent. It has been possible to run our club through the generosity and hard work of these ladies who came during the very cold and frosty spell to dig, weed and prepare the ground and beds for the children. They have some great ideas for transforming the gardens and I look forward to working with them to achieve an area of beauty and reward.
Our next session will be held on Tuesday 12th April for the first taster session group after school until 4pm.
Finally, we will keep you updated with the development of our new gardening club and the growth that appears in the meantime we thought you would like to see some pictures of us preparing, sowing and planting, enjoy...
