Getting to and from school
School drop off and pick up is one of the busiest times on the school site. We have over 350 families all trying to bring or collect their child from school at this time.
We have a number of protocols in place to ease the pressure on the school site at these times.
Drop off
- There are two gates that are opened every morning and afternoon to access the school site, the KS1 gate by Nursery or the KS2 gate by year 3.
- The School gates open at 8:30 and close at 8:45. Children can arrive at their classroom door anytime within this window. Anyone arriving after 8:45 when the gates are closed will need to be signed in by an adult at the office.
- Children in Reception through to year 2 must be dropped at their classroom door by a responsible adult.
- Children in Years 3-6 can use the drop off zone accessed by the second playground gate to quickly drop their children on the school site, the drop off zone and the gates are both supervised to ensure children get to their classrooms safely.
- You are able to give short messages to the class teacher at drop off.
Pick Up
- The School day ends at 3:15pm. Both the KS1 and KS2 gate open at 3:10pm to allow parents access to the site. The school gates close at 3:30pm, You can collect your child anytime between 3:15-3:30.
- Any children not collected by 3:15 will be taken to the school office and a parent contacted.
- Children in Reception through to Year 2 must be collected from their classroom door by a responsible adult.
- Children in years 3-6 are eligible for the Walking Bus. You can sign up for this service via an Operoo form. These children are collected from the classroom and brought up to the Drop off Zone, where they are supervised while parents drive in and collect.
- Please note the gates for walking bus do not open until 3:20pm. Please do not queue on Sopwith Road in front of these gates, and do not queue in the drop off zone itself.
Parking on and around the site
- We have a small number of parking spaces (around 30) available for parent use. This cannot possibly meet the demand for spaces from our school community.
- We allocate parking permits to our families who live over 800m from the school and have a children in Reception, year 1 and year 2.
- We also have 4 disabled spaces for use for the disabled parents and children in our community. We respectfully ask that other parents do not use these spaces without an appropriate blue badge.
- We encourage walking to and from school wherever possible and there are a number of residential roads you can park on where you can walk with ease to the school site.
- When parking on residential roads we ask that you park considerately and do not block residents drives, park on corners or park on both sides of the road limiting access for larger and emergency vehicles.
Year 6 Privileges
- Children in year 6 can be given to right to walk both too and from school independently, this is decided by parent permission and begins in June of their Year 5 year.
- Please note these privileges will be revoked for specific individuals if we have concerns about their safety when travelling to school independently.
- When year 6 children have passed they Bikeability training - which is undertaken In October of their Year 6 year - children may then cycle to school independently.
