Welcome to Reception
Butterflies Class - Mrs Burgisser & Ladybirds Class - Mrs Alberts
Welcome back to our second half term, we hope you have all had a lovely half-term break. We hope you all took the chance to relax and enjoy family time together.
During the second half of the Autumn term our topics will be Amazing Autumn and Winter Wonderland.
We are looking forward to exploring a variety of celebrations and festivals; including Bonfire Night, Diwali and Christmas. We will also be taking time to share what Remembrance Day means in a child friendly way and exploring the symbol of poppies.
We will be using lots of non- fiction books to explore festivals and enjoy stories linked to them as well.
We will also be using some non-fiction books to explore our Winter Wonderland topic, these will include Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers and The Jolly Postman by Janet and Allan Ahlberg.
We will continue to follow our phonics scheme and will be moving on to digraphs this half term. We will also be concentrating on developing our fine motor skills to aid our letter and number formation and handwriting skills.
In Maths, our focus will be to represent numbers to 5 and beyond, including subitising, and ensuring we are counting accurately. We will also be exploring 2D shapes and adding them to our play.
In RE and Understanding the World we will be recognising that people have different beliefs and celebrate special times in different ways. We will also look at the Christian story of creation as well as the Nativity story.
We will continue to have PE lessons every Tuesday and Wednesday. Please make sure your child comes into school wearing their PE Uniform. We also suggest wearing a warmer clothing now that it is colder. Please ensure all uniform is clearly named. Please also ensure earrings are taken out for these days.
It is great to see many of the children eating the fruit provided by the school for their mid-morning snack. Lots of children are also enjoying the school meals that are provided and are free. Please consider making use of this entitlement especially during the colder winter months. If your child is bringing in their own packed lunch, please ensure that it is a healthy balanced meal with fruits or vegetables. We do have children with severe allergies across the school, therefore we ask that NO NUTS are given within lunch boxes please! We also ask you to provide water in your child's named water bottle, we can refill them during the day.
Please remember that we are always happy to answer any questions you may have with regards to your child’s school life.
Kind Regards,
The Reception Team
