Welcome back to our very last half term together! We hope you all had a wonderful, restful break. We can hardly believe we are already in our final few weeks of Reception! Time has flown, but we have so many exciting things planned to make this term absolutely unforgettable.
This half term our topic is… Sun, Sea and Sand
We are diving into the beautiful season of summer! We will be exploring holidays, the magic of the seaside, and the wonderful wildlife living on the beach and under the waves. We will also become little geographers as we compare our local area to the seaside.
As we get closer to the end of the summer, we will gently begin celebrating 'new beginnings'. Through supportive stories and circle times, we will look back at all the amazing lessons we have learned and look forward to the exciting adventures ahead in Year 1!
In our maths learning we will be ensuring our foundational maths skills are strong for next year, we are focusing on deepening and consolidating our number knowledge. This term we will explore:
- Sharing: Learning how to group and share items fairly.
- Odd & Even: Discovering what these number patterns look like.
- Position & Direction: Using fun positional language to guide each other.
- Adding & Subtracting: Putting together and taking away with confidence.
- Number Bonds: Securing our fast recall of facts to 5 and beyond.
The children have grown so much as writers! This half term is all about building up our writing stamina and independence. We will be encouraging the children to write multiple sentences about a single topic and confidently use their own classroom resources—like phonics sound mats—all by themselves.
In Phonics, we will introduce a few new alternative sounds to give them a head start for next year. However, our main mission is embedding and recalling the sounds we already know, ensuring the children feel incredibly confident applying them directly to their daily reading and writing.
Don’t forget to keep an eye out for photos of our final half-term adventures on Seesaw! Please continue to use the fantastic eBooks on Oxford Owl at home to support your child’s reading confidence and fluency.
Our PE sessions remain on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Please ensure your child comes to school wearing their PE kit on both days.
It is great to see many of the children eating the fruit provided by the school for their mid-morning snack. If your child is bringing in their own snack, please ensure that it is either fruit or vegetables. We do have children with severe allergies across the school therefore there must be NO NUTS in any of the children’s snacks or packed lunches. Please provide water in your child's water bottle.
We would also like to promote the school lunches, these are free for children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.
If you have any questions or just want to chat about your child’s transition over the coming weeks, please pop over to see one of us at the gate. Thank you for your continued, wonderful support!
