Statutory Assessment

Through your child's time with us we will use a number of different methods to assess your child. There are some statutory assessments that your child will undertake during their time at primary school these are currently;

Reception Baseline Assessment (RBA)

All children are assessed within their first 6 weeks of beginning a reception setting. The assessment is undertaken 1:1 with an adult and the child and involves answering questions based on things they see on a screen and with objects in front of them. There are no summative outcomes provided for these assessments.

Year 1 Phonics Screening

Children in year 1 undertake an individual phonics screening assessment in June of their year 1 year. The children undertake a 1:1 session with the teacher in which they are asked to read, blend and segment a number or real and alien words to establish their understanding of phonics. Children who do not pass their phonics screening in year 1 will undertake the assessment in June of Year 2. The outcomes from these assessments are;

Wa - the child is working at the expected phonic standard and has passed the phonic screening

Wt - the child is working to wards the expected phonics standard and has not passed the phonic screening

Year 4 Multiplication Check (MTC)

In June whilst your child is in year 4 they will undertake an online multiplication test of 25 questions from the times tables from 0x0 to 12x12.

The outcome of this assessment is a score out of 25

Key Stage 2 Standard Assessment Tasks (KS2 SATs)

In May of your child's year 6 year they will undertake formal assessments in Reading, Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling, Maths Arithmetic and Maths Reasoning. These assessments are administered as formal tests. The outcomes from these assessments are;

WTS - the child is working towards the expected standard (and has a standardised score lower than 100)

EXS - the child is working at the expected standard (and has a standardised score of 100 or greater)

GDS / High - the child is working at a high level or above the expected standard (and has a standardised score of 110 or high)
