Warfield CE Primary School

Welcome to Year 1

Otters Class - Mrs Burgisser & Raccoons Class - Mrs Raynsford

Welcome back to school Otters and Raccoons,

We hope you have had an enjoyable Easter holiday with your friends and family and that you are ready for our exciting new topic Land Ahoy!

During the first half of the Summer term, our learning will be focused on our topic Land Ahoy! The topic will cover stories in English including The Boy Who Sailed the World and Grauaile, The Pirate Queen.

Within our humanities learning, we will focus our Geography lessons on learning the continents and oceans in our world and learning about the lives of significant explorers of the past including Sir Francis Drake in our History lessons.

Our Art lessons focus will turn to developing children’s awareness and knowledge of colour and how different colours can be made from mixing the primary colours. We will explore and experiment with a wide variety of different tools, especially when using paint, and consider how the tool can change the texture and appearance of artwork. Alongside this, children will have the opportunity to explore with collage and observe how collage can add texture to an art piece.

In Maths, we will focus on mass and volume, including capacity then look at simple multiplication and division – first counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s then grouping and sharing.

Information:

P.E days have changed to Mondays and Thursdays. Children need to come to school dressed in their PE school uniform on these days following the uniform policy. Earrings need to be taken out or taped over.

Home-folders need to be in school every day.

Spelling books need to be in your child’s home-folder for their spelling practise every Friday.

Please can we encourage you to resist sending your child in with a large bag and with lots of key rings. We have limited space in our cloakroom and are not responsible for items going missing. We only expect children to bring in their book folder and a bottle of water each day.

Please ensure your child’s clothing is named and is in line with the school uniform policy. Children will be sent home with a slip if their uniform does not adhere to the policy.
