Welcome to Year 5

Pandas Class - Miss Lain
Tigers Class - Miss Quinn
Year Group LSAs - Mrs Gardner, Mrs Hamidchi, Ms Dove,
Mrs Page, Mrs Main

We hope you have had a wonderful break and are looking forward to an exciting final half-term in Year 5.

In our science topic, Creature Comforts, we will explore the life cycles of a range of animals, including birds, amphibians, insects and mammals, making comparisons between them. We will investigate the important roles that flowers and insects play in pollination and develop our understanding of the human life cycle, focusing on childhood development and the changes that occur as we age.

In RE, we will explore the Christian belief of Jesus as King. We will read and discuss a range of parables, examining the concept of the Kingdom of God. We will also consider how Christians believe Jesus’ teachings guide them in living a good and meaningful life.

In PSHCE, we will learn about what it means to be an active citizen and how we can make our voices heard. We will explore the role and structure of the Houses of Parliament and discuss what could happen if someone breaks the law.

During our DT lessons, we will investigate what makes a successful salad and how recipes can be adapted to suit different tastes and preferences. We will taste a variety of ingredients commonly found in Mediterranean salads before designing and preparing our own recipes in small groups.

In Computing, we will develop our digital design skills by creating vector drawings using PowerPoint.

Important Information

P.E. Days will be Wednesday and Friday. Please wear P.E. uniform to school on these days.

Paper copies of spellings and home learning are sent home at the beginning of each half-term. We have also attached a copy of current home learning on this page. Spellings will be tested every Thursday.

Please ensure your child’s clothing, including coats, jumpers, hats and scarves are all appropriately labelled with your child's name and ideally their class too so that we are able to return these to you as easily as possible.

Thank you for your continued support of your child's learning this year.
